Unsung relations!!

Rahul went to the old store room, searched for a carton on which it was written with a marker “Dad’s things”. He finally found that carton. He sat on a small stool, after pulling this carton towards him and tearing its seal open. He picked up his dad’s old diary into his hands, and went through it.

“I had brought up my son with lots of love and care. I never expected that he would do the same thing in return when I grow old. I had thought the least I could expect from him was that he would spend some time with me and say something nice. Sadly, that never happened. Maybe my expectations were too much. He had become very busy in his life and never found any time for me.”

Rahul sadly turned to the next page of his father’s diary. He found a peacock’s father between the pages. He picked it up and read the note on that page.

“As a kid, my son loved this peacock’s feather a lot. As he grew up, he had forgotten about it. I felt it would be nice if I could treasure it. It has sweet memories of my dear son playing with it.”

He looked up, touching his face with that peacock’s feather. Then he continued reading his father’s diary.

“Maybe my son loved me, maybe. I would never know his inner feelings as he never expressed much. We had become like two strangers as he grew up. I felt it wouldn’t have mattered if I had to pass away some time back.”

Rahul had a drop of tear in his right eye, which flowed slowly down his cheek.
He had moved to a distant place after completing his studies. He had seen his parents only a few times. As he got married and had his own kids, it even became a rare thing. It was not that he didn’t love or care for his parents. But he had locked his love for his parents deep inside his heart and never expressed it to them. It was some years back when his mother had passed away. His father was living alone in the old house. He had asked him to move into their place, but the old man had refused it. He wanted to live his last days recalling the wonderful memories of that house, where his beloved wife had stayed.

Rahul had given it a thought to spend some time with his father, but that time never came. Soon his own children grew up, and one day his old father had passed away in his sleep. He had seen his father’s diary a couple of times: once while he was alive and the second time after his death, while packing his things from the old house. Finally, his father’s things found its stay in this store room of the house.

Today, he missed his father a lot and he just remembered that his father used to write in a diary. He felt that he might feel closer to his dad going through it at least now.
“Life isn’t a fairy tale. Reality is too hard to digest.” His father had written in the next page.

“After my dearest wife passed away, for the first time in my life I realized how much alone I was in this selfish world. My dear son had asked me to move with him to his house. However, I refused as I knew that it wouldn't make much difference moving to that place. So I thought let me stay over here embracing my solitude, with the sweet memories of my dear wife to cherish till my last day arrives.”

“Moreover, my wife had loved this place a lot! I wonder what would happen to this place after I am gone. Perhaps, it would be destroyed to build something else. Luckily, I wouldn’t be there to see something my wife had loved being destroyed forever.”

A drop of tear from his eyes landed on the page of his father’s diary. He closed the diary, kissed it and hugged it tightly to his chest.
He went inside and asked his son.

“Son, can you please take me for a drive?”
“Sure, dad!” His son said, standing up.

His son drove his father to the graveyard. The eighty year old Rahul walked slowly with the help of his son towards his father’s grave.

“Son, I would like to spend some moments alone with my father” Rahul said.

“Sure, dad, I will pay a visit to grandma’s grave in the meantime.” He said walking away.

Rahul bent and placed a bunch of white Lilly flowers on his father’s tomb.

“Dad, I hope you are listening to my words wherever you are right now…I am very sorry for having neglected you when you needed me the most in your life…I am extremely very sorry for that…please forgive me…one more thing, I love you a lot! I wish I had told you this while you were around.” He said with tears overflowing from his eyes.

The wind was blowing quite strong, and it carried away his tears towards the big banyan tree, which stood near to his father’s grave. He remembered to having seen a small sapling the last time he was here.

“I forgive you, my dear son. I love you a lot too. I always did. I wish that I could hug you now, but I am helpless being this stupid tree in my present birth.” These were the thoughts of the big banyan tree.

“Dad, shall we go now?” His son came and asked him.

“All right, son” He said, walking away with him.

The wind carried some leaves from the big banyan tree, and they gently touched the old man’s back.

Strange paths!!

It was one of those days when the clouds of nostalgia loomed over Arjun. The memories came back haunting him, reminding those moments he and Rohit had spent together in college. They were the best of pals but that one grave fact that they both loved Reena had forked their friendship in two mindless horizons.

Arjun lucidly formed the past pictures in his mind as he tardily had a puff of the cigarette. The smile that ever bloomed over the bubbly girl Reena could have given the sunflowers a complex. When she walked past the college corridor, there would be hums of his heart beats that used to ring his ears and Rohit as usual toiled hard to prepare the notes for the day lectures.Rohit was an unassuming lad who knew how to better the power of his specs and Arjun was a careless freak who knew how to beat the winds with his ballistic bike.

Years have passed by and as he sat on the bench waiting for his train at the platform, the heart wrenching moment rained in his eyes, gleaming that night when he had accidentally uncovered a letter in the room that he and Rohit used to share during their college days.He had broken into tears when he learnt that Rohit and Reena were in love with each other and he felt like a broken arrow in his own bow. And,Today he was leaving to Mumbai to tie the knot with the girl that his folks have chosen for him.He had yearned over years to confess how much he had loved Reena and the Diamond ring which he had intended to give her as a sign of his love still lay safe with him.

Arjun was in his own reverie when a loud brawny voice dazed him out.
"Sir, Are you Mr.Arjun ?", asked the gentleman who had the casual grim but was well dressed in a elegant black suit.Arjun in a baffling voice replied "Yes Sir".
The gentleman looked into his eyes and said, "Sir, is this your wallet? I happened to find this at the corner, nearby the ticket counter." Arjun checked his back pockets and looked prudently over the wallet.

Now carefully examining it he said, " Yes, it belongs to me but how did you figure out that its mine?", he queried with curiosity.
The gentleman with a sharp pause replied,"Sir, the wallet contained your driving license." Arjun with unsure vibes asked "It had lot of money, few credit and debit cards too and I see all that is safe".
Gentleman answered with a loud ringing reply," Sir, I know you would be thinking as to why I didn't keep the wallet to myself. isn't it?".
After a reasoned pause, he continued "Sir, I'm John.Working as sales executive for a automobile firm and I learnt that you head one of our branches in Chennai. I came across a slip in your wallet which talked about an important appointment with foreign clients in Mumbai and had the journey ticket too."
Arjun was quite impressed with his honest intentions and said, "That was so very kind of you. Thank you ,John."

John sat along side Arjun on the bench, stacking up his luggage by the side.Arjun asked,"Where are you heading?"
John smilingly said, "I'm heading to Bangalore to attend my cousin Reena's marriage."
Arjun gasped and in a shrieking voice asked, "Reena Garg ? ".
Pat came the reply from Rahul with a puzzling look. "Yes, Do u know her ? ".
Arjun smiling said, "She was my batchmate in college. So is she getting married to rohit  ?".
John's eyes lit up and he exclaimed,"Yes. You seem to know a lot about her,Was she a good friend of your's ? ".
The gush of emotions washed Arjun into his yesteryears and he nodded his head in painful glee. The moonlight beams, the sun shines and her eternal smiles came back hitting him right in the eye.
He asked John a favour."I Would have come down personally to Bangalore to attend Reena's marriage, but i'm held up with work and have personal commitments.Could you on my behalf gift her this present on her marriage ?".
It was the Diamond Ring which was gift wrapped in a heart-shaped red box which he had longed to give her since eons.
John battling his eyelids hesitantly accepted it.

Amidst this, the train to Mumbai hit the platform.Arjun in a very amicable tone thanked John for all the generosity and said, "I owe you John  for this favour,Would return the favour when I'm Back in Chennai."
John with a radiant smile replied, "It's my pleasure, Sir.Here is my visiting card.Do let me know when you hit Chennai again".
Arjun collected his luggage and entered the compartment. And as the train started to catch its speed, He remembered he had forgotten to give the unposted letter he had written to Reena. He checked his bag and then the wallet. But there was no trace of it.Soon he recollected that he had placed the letter in his wallet after he had purchased the ticket at the ticket counter.
Arjun surveyed a glance from his grilled window of the compartment but he couldn't catch a glimpse of John.He anxiously looked at the visiting card of John to only learn that it was a fake one.
The back of the visiting card said,
"All that glitters is not gold,
Deception and guile are my stronghold.
Your belief failed as your faith undid you,
We will meet again,When its the Day that Wasn't ..."

♫♫ The Sense ♡f Romance ♫♫

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

The boy looked irritated. He'd been wanting to spend time with his dream girl but could not manage to grab an opportunity. Even when he had the opportunity to do so, he was extremely shy to go and approach her. Talk to her. Know her! He was frustrated by his only "mentor" - GOD! The boy was looking outside the window, and could clearly see the tiny little drops of rain, playing with the window pane. The clouds were heavy, and anyone with some common sense could easily predict that it was about to rain heavily. Neither the droplets, the small rain drops, nor the boring class of History had the slightest of chances to end soon. Out of 40 students in the class, only 9 were present due to the overnight rains and it was still the third period. Even the teachers were absent,in the 3 periods he had attended so far, 2 teachers were absent. But, he had still come to the school, fighting with his mom, making her believe that how important was to go to school for him that day. But, the simple and the real reason why he'd come was for her. He knew,in fact he hoped she would come, and she had come to the school.

All he could do in the 3 periods, before the Principal called off the school for the day, was to look at her. Admire her & feel more attracted like a magnet towards her! He wanted to talk, but was unable to, for some unknown reason which he too couldn't find and justify. Despite the low class strength, he cursed God. He thought, "What could have been more romantic than a day like this! But, unluckily, I cannot be with her! God must have the worst sense of romance", he thought.
The streets were all water logged, not common during this time of the year. While the elders cursed the government for it, their younger counterparts enjoyed it like anything. The boy came out with his umbrella & bicycle. He was just about to ride it when he saw her coming. Today, just like his friends, all her friends were absent, too. So, she came playing with the water by herself. She didn't have an umbrella. He waited for her to come up.

"Hi!" she said in her all cheerful voice, "so you got no friends today?"
"No", he replied, "so it seems with you, too." And tried hiding his excitement.
"Yeah!" she smiled, "a little rain and they are all shut inside."
He smiled and hesitatingly said, "So ... you got no umbrella?"
"No, I've one. I used it while coming, 'cause I didn't want myself to be wet, then. But, now that I am returning home, I don't mind the rains!"
"That's alright," he smiled and folded his umbrella back into his bag.
"Hey, why are you closing your umbrella? You'll get wet" she was confused and worried at the same time.
"Well..." he said in a broken tone; shivering because of the cold winds blowing, "if you don't mind... then, may be I can give you a ride to your home?", and then added immediately almost as an excuse, "it's actually on the way to my home you know!"
He was embarrassed, but at the same time was excited, and was chilled out to by this conversation.
She looked at him for sometime and smiled, "Okay."

The two rode through the water logged isolated streets as the drizzle kept on soaking them. For him, it was like a dream, a dream come true. Riding on a bicycle with the princess of your dreams with you, getting wet in rains, ah! He felt strong, and responsible in a way even he couldn't understand and yet he was scared. He didn't know what he was. He could smell the wet fragrance of her shoulder, and the scent of her hair almost mesmerized him. He had seen such things happening somewhere, a place he could not remember. The feeling of her cuddled into his arms there invoked a strange unknown feeling of ecstasy in him, as if he was living a moment called forever. A moment that was his very own. A moment that no one could ever take away from him. He wanted to drive the cycle in the best way he could making it as comfortable for her as possible.
He wanted her to be his, only his, for that very moment. He was scared, was nervous. But, he knew, so was she. Never had she done anything like this before. She could sense his warm breath on her shoulders and neck, and feel the flex of his muscles around her. She didn't know what went on inside her but she knew that she wanted every moment to linger a bit longer. Just a little longer! Never had she felt anyone so close to her. And something inside her told her that she was happy that it was him. No one except him, ah! What the two were feeling at that moment was something which they would take at least a life time to explain themselves, to figure out, what was dwelling in them. They tried to talk but something kept them silent. Perhaps ,they didn't want their voice to disturb the warm intimate dialogue that their hearts were having in their silence. Seconds passed like that. And, so did minutes. The only thing that sounded was the little droplets of water blessed from the heavens. Gradually, they came near the girls house. The boy felt sad as she got off his bicycle.

 "Thanks", she smiled.
"You are welcome", he said the words, which required some unimagined effort.

He looked at her. She stood in front of him completely drenched. He could see the little droplets that ran down her cheeks. Her uniform clung onto her body, totally soaked. He swallowed a lump.

"What now?", she asked softly.
"No... nothing" he felt caught and cheated, "you are fully wet. Go in quickly or you might catch cold."
"Why don't you come in? Till the rain stops?", she asked him innocently, desperately wanting him to say a yes!
"No!" he said almost against his will, "I will be fine."
"Why?" she said, "I can catch cold, can't you? Are you so different from me? Are we so different?" The words came out from her mouth automatically.
"No-no" he was embarrassed, "I didn't mean that."
"Then come in", she insisted, "look at yourself you are totally wet, head to toe. Let me give you a towel, rub your head, and then you may go once the rain stops."
"Actually", he said hesitatingly, "it seems the rains will only get heavier. So, let me go before it starts to pour hard."
She looked up at the sky, the clouds had no doubt got darker. She gave up and said , "OK... but will you'll be okay ?"
"Oh yes", he smiled reassuring her, "My home is just ten minutes ride from here."
"OK" she said slowly, "just go carefully. See you, soon."
"Yup" he mounted his cycle, "see you, tomorrow."
He had barely gone a few yards when she called out, "Hey just a second, don't go. Listen"
He stopped immediately, as if wanting her to stop him. She came running to him.
"What?", he asked.

The water drops were still rolling down her cheeks and neck. She looked around once. And then brought her face near his. As if sensing what she was doing, he leaned in,too. And she whispered earnestly in his ears, "Are we really that different?" and planted a soft kiss on his cheek and stepped back. For a moment she stood there giving him the most incredible smile, and then she ran back. He stood there, stunned for a few seconds, then he looked up at the heavens once as the rain drops doused his face. 'Not that bad sense of romance after all' he thought smiling and rode off... He looked above, and said as he was speaking to God, "Sometimes even the nightmares are comforting. Thanks a lot.

Crosswords of Life.

Sometimes even the smallest of gestures from you go unnoticed in life. Many a times we even fail to realize that these small gestures can be a big deal for someone else.

Am one of those useless kind of guy,who loves playing around, average in studies, and who  never ever bothers of whats happening around.
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Neetin Thomas. It looked like he was carrying all of his books back home. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends the following afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him, while he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.
On any usual day,i wouldn't have even bothered to take a look at him,but that day i felt a little sympathy for this kid.My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him, and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw a tear in his eye.
I handed him his glasses and said, "Those guys are jerks,Just ignore them.
He looked at me and said, "Hey, thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. It turned out he lived near my house, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before coming to this school.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes. We hung all weekend and the more I got to know about
Neetin, the more I liked him and my friends thought the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Neetin with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Damn boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!". He just laughed and handed me half the books. Over the next four years, Neetin and I became best friends.

When we were seniors, we began to think about college.
I knew that we would always be friends and whatever we choose, distances between us would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Neetin was valedictorian of our class.

I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for our graduation.I had helped with the preparing the speech whole night, picking up many wonderful memories of our college life, but I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day arrived - I saw Neetin and he looked charming. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than me and all the girls loved him!Boy, sometimes I was so jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey  bro, you'll be great!"

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. "Thanks dear," he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I stared at my friend in disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met, something which was out of the speech we had prepared earlier.

He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his books home that day. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved by an angel. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth.

I dint feel myself useless for the first time in my life.I was proud,so was my parents. My dad who had never appreciated me once in my lifetime, hugged me and said" son, you, have grown up".I couldn't stop my tears,i wept like a baby,in my dad's arms.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way. That's the way its designed.

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

A MESSAGE FROM A UNKNOWN NUMBER!!

A MESSAGE FROM A UNKNOWN NO... in my previous article as i mentioned, being single is not always fun,but it does give you the liberty to enjoy your life without being tied down to a commitment.

"Enjoy your life as much as u can as Single because to become single again is very painful..!"

Many a times i have wondered ,what my friends talk endlessly with their girlfriends for hours at a stretch. Why do they seek Solitary confinement while talking??Don't they ever run out of topics??With the revolution of cheaper call rates in our country, there were no more economical barriers in our daily communications.I was really curious to find out what staged such long talks causing sleepless nights, the very exact reason for the foundation of back-benchers society.
I always had a longing desire for a  pretty sweet girlfriend, but never was i so lucky!!Maybe years of schooling in a boys only military institution had made me bit shy in interacting with girls.I found myself low on confidence ,with  any girls issues on many occasions.
Fate really plays a big role in our love-life. You don't have to be that handsome to attract a pretty girl,Some of my friends being the classic examples.Sometimes it incite me to glance at the mirror and even question myself"do i look that bad??" My friend once said"You simply needs to be good at your game".

Sometimes I wonder why god is so hard on us?All i was asking was just 1 girl for me from the millions i pass by daily.Everyday was just becoming another blank page of my life - As legends say, maybe god was still busy writing the best love
story for me.......
Being single is no crime, but then it pushes your desperation level to find a companion.Accept it or not friends, its the truth, everyone loves to be accepted by someone.

Every time you get a miss call or message from a unknown number, the first thing your pal asks you is"(aliya valla pennum anoda)dude, was that a girl??Was her voice sweet??followed by a set of regular questions...
Even when you are 95% sure that it wont be a girl, the remaining 5% keeps u going.. asking yourself the Imperative question"what if you get lucky this time around??

Two months back i received a text message from a unknown phone no.She called herself Nancy and confessed of having a huge crush on me.She even wanted to meet me the following weekend(at last it was happening).I was ready to a take a chance, because  practically I had nothing to loose here.We continued texting for the next 2 days.My heart slowly gave way and i started falling for  nancy's sweet messages.By the weekend i had even planned the name for our kids. I spent sleepless nights messaging to love of my life,Nancy.

First time in my life i realized that you can talk endlessly, with out even making sense to a girl for hours, such was the beauty of their gene structure. The picture was becoming much more clear to me now and then i realized the most funny facts of my life.Even the toughest of tough guys talk sweet, the guys who claimed to being proudly  single were at the height of desperation and the most handsome looking bachelors were still single out there.Love was indeed blind and it had nothing to do with looks, money or prestige. It simply took you to another world.

After 3 weeks of intense messaging,I gathered up my courage and decided to call her for the very first time.I had rehearsed my speech, and set of questions to perfection and had even got a thumps up from my friend David.I picked up the phone and dialed her number. My breathing became heavy, throat was soar, hands shivering, never before had i felt so uneasy talking to someone. She picked up the call and i heard the breathing whisper followed by a span of silence. Those few seconds were the longest seconds of my life, events of past 3 weeks flashed by my mind. Finally I took the lead and said "hello",a moment of silence, was followed by a chuckle, and then by a burst of laugh from the other end.I never had a clue that the most awaited call of my life was gonna turn into my worst nightmare of my lifetime.

It was a very well executed plan by my friends, never been in life i felt so badly humiliated and disgraced.Slowly i opened my room, only to be greeted by my friends, mocking me over and over again.Far end of the corridor,i could see David grinning at me with a killer smile.Tears rolled down my cheeks, and the room went to pin drop silence,as they stopped laughing.Maybe they felt ,it had gone little too much.I felt my anger rushing through my blood, especially towards David who knew it all the way.One by one everyone scrolled out my room except for David.David hugged me and said"bro,we were just having some fun,let it go.am sorry, if it hurt your feelings.I smiled and said"it's OK,am fine".
Sometimes life brings u to such crossroads that u feel, smiling is far better than explaining why we are sad.

Sincerely, i must admit that i fell in love for this non-existent girl.Yes,my first love.Above all, like an icing on the cake ,i became the laughing stock of my friends for the next few days. But for now my search continues for that elusive one....

"Enjoy your life as much as u can as Single because to become single again is very painful..!"

A TRIBUTE

Friends,Friends for ......Ever...
-------------------------------

We inherit our relatives by birth, friends we earn by choice. May be the very reason a handful of friends count much more than a thousand relatives.Such is the value of friendship that somebody once remarked,
"Love is rarer than genius & Friendship rarer than Love"
An ear to listen, a voice to comfort,a bond to cherish, a shoulder to support.A relation that transcends all boundaries and super cedes all dissimilarities,it is the very gest of friendship. No matter how stupid, how funny you are, how fatter you may be or simply how different may be your identity, a true friend will be always a friend& will be for ever.....

Seven years had passed as if time has boarded a supersonic.Today when i look back at this wonderful relationship, glimpses of many a memories fly by my eyes, when we were flat broke and our pals came to our rescue, bunked classes to watch some stupid movies, teaming up for mission impossibles.Moments when we sobbed together, laughed together, shared our answer papers, compromised on many occasions and how can we forget the harshest punishments we took together and those simple horrendous decisions we took.

But as Ralph waldo Emerson once quoted
"It is one of the blessings of old friends, that you can afford to be stupid with them".

But all good times have an end ,so do our school life, a treasure of lifetime. Now after seven years, when we step out of this school, the walls which had protected us,with pride and grace& our eyes filled with tears,we all know our heart will be always here and will be for ...ever.

I hope and I know that each one of us will carry the spirits of our school flagged with excellence and commitment ,into this ever growing world, where dynamism is the ask of the hour ,very exactly the thing our teachers and embedded in our bloods.

Whomever we are, whatever we do,wherever we go,amongst any hectic life or never ending office hours, umpteen peers or zillion responsibilities,we would be amidst each other to remind that nothing has changed in us nor the joy of caring, neither the sacrifice because selfless love still holds on...

BECAUSE WE ARE FRIENDS,
FRIENDS FOR EVER...
